Lee Rocker

Lee Rocker (CA, USA)

Lee Rocker made his mark singing, playing, standing on, spinning and rocking his giant upright bass in the legendary music group The Stray Cats. Grammy-nominated, The Stray Cats have sold nearly 10 million albums and garnered an astounding 23 gold and platinum certified records worldwide. Founded by Rocker, Brian Setzer, and Slim Jim Phantom, The Stray Cats remain a radio staple, were music video pioneers at the infancy of MTV, and repeatedly brought rockabilly music to the top of the charts.

WS Holland

WS "Fluke" Holland (TN, USA)

W.S.'s musical career began in 1954 at Sun Records as drummer for Carl Perkins and his brothers, J.B. and Clayton. He played on all of Carl's Sun releases, including the original "Blue Suede Shoes".
He was also the drummer on the "Million Dollar Quartet" session  with Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash and Carl Perkins.
After the success of “Blue Suede Shoes” began to wane around 1959, W.S. planned to “retire” from the music business and get a job back in Jackson where he and his wife Joyce lived. Just before reporting to a new job working for a land surveyor in 1960, W.S. got a call from Johnny Cash. Cash had two important dates booked up north and wanted him to go along and play drums on this two week trip.  What started as a two week gig turned into almost 40 years with The Man in Black.

Rayburn Anthony

Rayburn Anthony (TN, USA)

Our MaRS Festival "honoree".

Rayburn Anthony was born and raised in Humboldt Tennessee (USA) 15 miles north of Jackson , Tennessee. One of eight children he was in his own words "about the middle." His father farmed and also painted houses to feed the large family.

He started singing in public when he joined his older brother Bob's band having learned the fundamentals of guitar playing from his brother.

He made his first recordings for the legendary Sun label in Memphis. W.S. “Fluke” Holland (long time drummer for Johnny Cash and Carl Perkins) took Rayburn to Memphis for his first sessions at Sun.  At the time, W.S. had left the Perkins band to take some time off from the road himself and had discovered Carl Mann working in a local club. WS worked with Mann at Sun to produce such great records as "Mona Lisa ".

Tim Polecat (CA, USA)

Co-founder, guitarist and vocalist in UK band The Polecats, with hits "Rockabilly Guy", "Make a Circuit with Me" and a chart topping cover of David Bowie's "John I'm Only Dancing", Tim later founded "13 Cats" with Slim Jim Phantom (ex-Stray Cats). We are extremely excited to have Tim as one of our headliners, you do not want to miss this!

Bloodshot Bill (Montreal)

Ecclectic and energetic! Bloodshot Bill started playing in his hometown of Montreal, around 1998, with just a guitar and a stomp board. Since then, he has had over 30 releases throughout Europe, USA and Canada - and still tours all these places frequently. He was banned from entering the States for 5 years (2006-2011) and made his first "(wel)comeback" show in USA at the Norton Records 25th Anniversary Weekend, performing alongside such legendary (and killer!) acts such as Andre Williams, The Sonics, 5678's, Mighty Hannibal and The South Bay Surfers. Since 2003 his hair has been slicked with his own brand of grease, "Nice 'n' Greasy", and he plays his guitar through his custom made one-of-a-kind Richtone Amp. He's been in lotsa bands you've never heard of (Hubcaps, Guilloteens, Bootlegs, Hand-Cuffs, Pouteens). Won FME's Coup De Coeur prize in 2007. Released records with Mark "BBQ" Sultan as The Ding- Dongs. Has been in several films & documentaries. Collaborates with King Khan as Tandoori Knights. He's the spokesmen for a hamburger, The Degeue ("disgusting burger" translated). Usually travels alone as a one man band.

The Bloodshots

The Bloodshots (NY, USA)

The Bloodshots are a 3 piece Rockabilly band based in Brooklyn, NY.

Together since Summer of 2012, The Bloodshots have been making waves and making friends around New York City with their honest approach to roots-Rockabilly. Known for their charismatic stage-presence and entertaining live show (Don't be surprised if Little Lesley hops right up on her bass in high-heels), The Bloodshots keep it rolling at local nyc watering holes and beyond.

The Millwinders

The Millwinders (Toronto)

"The four members of Toronto's Millwinders are no strangers to the Rockabilly scene, having played previously in bands such as "The Royal Crowns", "Real Gone", "The Tin Eddies" and "Cool Jerk". Together just over 3 years, this quartet has been making a name for themselves quickly, entertaining crowds with their traditional rockabilly, and R&B infused sound. 2012 was an eventful year for The Millwinders, with the release of its debut album "Ladies and Gentlemen", The Millwinders", and live appearances at the Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekender, and the Montreal Red Hot and Blue Rockabilly Weekend, Eastend Rockabilly Riot, the Hotrod Hootenanny as well as sharing a festive year-end bill with El Vez. With all four members handling vocal duties, the strength of "The Millwinders" truly is in the sum of it's parts. "

The Shakedwon Combo

The Shakedown Combo (NS)

Your Amherst rockabilly darlings and festival organizers The Shakedown Combo are so excited to bringing you this action packed weekend and can't wait for you to take part in the full rockabilly experience this event will bring! "Put Your Cat Clothes on and Step Out Rockin'" !!!

TSC perform with the attitude that Rockabilly can be modern and contemporary, not simply a sound from past decades revived by cover bands whenever retro becomes fashionable. They favour original material over reworking the old classics,
however they don't dismiss the original rockers, or the 1980s revivalists. Rockabilly artists from both eras play a big part in influencing the sound and style of The Shakedown Combo, giving them a solid bass to move forward from.
Rockabilly fans will love the twanging guitar and slapping double bass that typify the genre, but the catchy upbeat songs and modern production invite wider appeal. The bands line-up consists of two girls and one guy who together blast out Red Hot Bass Slappin', Beat Whackin' Rockabilly Twang!

Urban Surf Kings

Urban Surf Kings (NS)

Canada’s East Coast instro-nuts, URBAN SURF KINGS, play surf music, 1960’s style.  Think the beach blasts of Dick Dale, the leather jacket rumble of Link Wray, and the biker fuzz of B-movie heroes Davie Allan & the Arrows.  It’s fun for the whole family!
The 19 year old trio features Rev Hank on surf guitar, Crash Flagg on surf bass, and Inky on traps.  They are officially the longest running surf band in Canada!
URBAN SURF KINGS have 11 releases to date, including their April 2009 seven-inch ep, Ski School.  The band has just released Retro-Sonic!,  a “greatest hits” full length. All of their previous CDs & 45s have charted on campus/community radio across Canada, and the US.
With a fan base that extends around the world (including North & South America, Europe, Asia & Australia), Urban Surf Kings may be the busiest surf band in Canada.

“One of the best Surf Instrumental bands on the planet” Raucous Records UK

RockN Rebels

RockN Rebels (NB)

Rock'n Rebels play a morbid hybrid of rockabilly & punk that is sure to make you ghouls dance. The Rebels have been raising hell in one form or another since 1995, but it is only in their current incarnation that they found the sound that defines them. The Rebels have been all over the maritimes & Shared the stage with tons of great bands including: The Creepshow, The Brains, Gutter Demons, S.N.F.U, & The Matadors to name a few.

The BlackRats

The Blackrats (NS)

The Blackrats is a Canadian band based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Transcending the sounds of traditional rockabilly and psychobilly, The Blackrats take their love for B movies, horror films, and comic books, and combine them into songs almost anyone can relate to.

The Blackrats have been performing regularly in Nova Scotia, as well as hitting the stage with successful bands such as Nashville Pussy, the Supersuckers, The Brains, The Creepshow, The Mahones, and Big John Bates and the Voodoo Dollz.

Consisting of the rocking rhythm and vocals of Brad Blackrat, the slap and rumble of Pete Green on the upright bass, the screaming shredding lead guitar of Troy Wilson, the sexy smooth saxophone of Adam Nelson, and the pulse pounding drums of Ian Kean. The Blackrats have proven to be a horrific force to be reckoned with and will shake you right down to your bones with their spooky brand of Rock & Roll.

The Green Reflectors

The Green Reflectors (NS)

The Green Reflectors are a two piece band based in Bridgewater, NS. Kyle (Guitars) and Aaron (Drums) Furlotte play instrumental surf flavoured rock n’ roll influenced by such artists as Link Wray, The Ventures, The Jam and The Beatles. They've been hard at work for 5 years now, playing tons of local shows and travelling to all ends of Nova Scotia spreading instrumental surf love. Starting off in a community with a primarily metal scene, they found it hard to break into their local scene and get a gig. When they finally did, they melted faces and had the crowd moshing to their slick Link Wray style riffs.

Think tube amps, vintage vinyl records, fuzzy power chords, slick fast drums and crazy stage prescence and you’ll have a pretty good idea of what The Green Reflectors are all about!

Dapper dan & The Drive In Classics

Dapper Dan & The Drive-In Classics (NB)

Dapper Dan & The Drive In Classics started their outfit for the love of the true classics, cars, girls and good times.

Traditional rock-a-billy (not psychobilly) and they also do bluegrass versions of some 80's favorites.

Lenny Crash

Lenny Crash & The Restorations (NS)

Local band Lenny Crash and The Restorations will be putting their own swing on your favorite 50's tunes!
